1. Research into the genre which you are working in and simialr media texts.

Horror films are basically designed to create panic and horror among audience; it’s mostly terrifying and invokes our hidden fear. Horror films are dark side of our life and it shows in real life. Horror genre is one of the oldest genres among the other categories. Some known films include ‘Psycho’, ‘Evil Dead’, ‘Saw’, ‘The Blair Witch Project’, ‘The Shining’ and ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’. The known directors and the producers are Alfred Hitchcock (Psycho), Tobe Hoopers (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre).

Locations for horror films are usually filmed in sinister looking places, for example in the great thriller ‘Psycho’ the film is set in a sinister and creepy looking house at the back of a motel in America, the house has incredibly old and creepy features for example old wooden beams, and cobwebs scattered everywhere. Also the film ‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre’, was set in an old house in Kingsland, Texas, this house didn’t look creepy an old but after people had seen this film they began to not judge a book by its cover.
